*ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR JANUARY 2025.* I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist, and together, we can explore how your past experiences have shaped who you are today. You will gain self-understanding, self-compassion, and begin to feel happier and more fulfilled. My clients are individuals and couples with a wide variety of concerns, including relationship issues, anxiety, grief, depression, and trauma. I can help you navigate unwanted emotions and get you ready to cope with any difficult life circumstances that might arise in the future. My past clients have described me as “non-judgmental, kind, and someone who calls them on their bullshit.” I also love working with people in non-traditional relationships as well as LGBT individuals and couples. I also specialize in transgender-affirmative therapy, and have worked with trans and non-binary clients who are questioning gender, people who are in the middle of a physical and/or social transition, and individuals who are either post-transition or have made other decisions in this regard. Even if your gender identity is not the topic you want to explore in therapy, I will provide an accepting environment where you can explore whatever you think will be most useful. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please email me to set up a 20-minute phone conversation so we can see if we would be a good fit.

Are you struggling with mood disorders, anxiety issues, OCD, or eating disorders? I provide mental health care for adults with a multimodal approach, ensuring relevant and informed patient care personalized to your specific lifestyle, wants, and needs. You are a unique individual with your own neurobiochemical makeup, which is why we work together to create a holistic treatment plan that you feel is realistic and sustainable. My specialty is in taking in a functional approach to psychiatry, with goals to discover the root cause of symptoms, provide options for treatment, and offer education for an informed therapeutic journey. I look forward to exploring the best options for you in our work together. Working together, you can expect a collaborative, therapeutic relationship, nonjudgmental environment, and creative solutions. I believe in taking a holistic approach while practicing with current evidence-based treatments, incorporating medications, psychotherapy, lifestyle counseling, and functional/nutritional psychiatry. My style of psychotherapy is integrative, combining Mindfulness, psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts/practices. Before becoming a Psych NP, I practiced as an RN in numerous medical specialties and discovered a passion for psychiatry over time. I saw how mental health was not equally prioritized to physical health, and believe it is all connected. This experience allows me to bring a well-rounded medical background to patient care while addressing psychiatric needs, contributing to holistic treatment.

My history of working in school settings from pre-K through college has shaped my approach to therapy, which is rooted in the belief that counseling is a learning process. From the foundation of a strong client/counselor partnership, clients can build skills and gain understanding to foster better relationships with both themselves and others, while also developing a more intentional and effective process for responding to stressors and challenges. My name is Cristal Sampson. I am the sole owner and healthcare provider at Spirit Clinic. A great way to describe what it’s like to work with me is through a term I’ve coined: mindful medication management. Mindful med management is an approach to psychiatric care that is attentive to the unique needs and concerns of each individual. It’s a collaborative process, where we work together to ensure that treatment decisions are made with your input and full understanding. At its core, this approach is relational, focusing on building trust and fostering open communication, so you feel supported every step of the way. It's also deeply considerate, acknowledging and respecting your personal experiences and preferences when it comes to treatment. Taking a holistic view, it goes beyond just addressing symptoms—encompassing your overall well-being, including emotional, physical, and social factors. Most importantly, it’s patient-led, meaning that you guide the process, and I’m here to help you find the best path toward better health, on your terms.

I've worked extensively with university and graduate students for over eight years, including completing my postdoctoral training at Cornell Health, and I'm deeply familiar with the academic, personal, and relational pressures that often accompany campus life. My approach is grounded in the psychodynamic tradition and trauma theory, with a focus on how early relationships and implicit emotional learning shape present experience. It is experiential in nature, emphasizing attention to emotional and bodily experience in the present moment. I draw from IFS, AEDP, Coherence Therapy, and Hakomi to help clients move beyond insight toward lasting emotional change.

In my years of experience I have come to realize so much about living in the world robs us of our ability to acknowledge our own magic. Therapy should be a safe place for you to begin to reclaim that magic and learn how to discover your own power. By using a "bottom to top" approach to identify how long held, negative beliefs, have kept you reliving and repeating the past, you can finally live in the present. I provide a safe, non judgemental space for you to work through trauma and reclaim the power inherent in you.
