Therapists for college students near New York University
You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Maybe you grew up keeping the peace, managing everyone else's emotions, or shrinking yourself to avoid conflict and now those same patterns are running your life. You overthink, people-please, and constantly second-guess yourself. You're self-aware enough to know something isn't working, but awareness alone hasn't changed it. These patterns have roots. Family wounds, early trauma, painful relationships that taught you it wasn't safe to just be yourself. If you're a young adult finally ready to discover who you actually are and you're in the right place. Using EMDR and a person-centered, strengths-based approach, I help you understand why you overthink, shut down, or people-please — and how your past is driving those patterns. Together we work to reduce anxiety, build self-trust, and help you finally feel comfortable in your own skin and clear in who you are. You've probably been trying to figure this out on your own for a long time. These patterns have deeper roots, and they don't have to keep running the show. If you're ready to stop going through the motions and start building a life that actually feels like yours, I'd love to hear from you.
Are you struggling with adjusting to life while in school? Experiencing anxiety around passing your classes or keeping your grades up? Having challenges with your social life or relationships while in school? Struggling with complex family dynamics? Having fears or worries about the future? I can help you make sense of what you're experiencing and feeling, and provide the tools to help you feel more steady and confident. I'm a social worker with over 20 years of experience helping people experiencing life adjustments, anxiety, identity issues, grief, and trauma. I offer a compassionate, non-judgmental approach focused on healing and finding or returning to joy in life. I work with individuals of all backgrounds, and center the needs of people who’ve historically been excluded or harmed by traditional systems of care, including: BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQAI+, TGNC (trans and gender non-conforming), the disabled and chronically ill, single mothers, first generation college students, and trauma victims/survivors. Outside of my work with clients, I love reading, hiking, and going to concerts and comedy shows. I'm naturally curious about people and would love to hear about how you enjoy spending your time when you're not studying. I'd love the chance to work with you and to help you navigate this important time of your life. Please reach out so we can schedule a free initial conversation soon.

Rebecca is a counseling intern who is passionate about creating a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their stories and identities. As an Asian American woman and adoptee, she understands how deeply identity, belonging, and cultural context shape people’s lives. Her own journey has given her both compassion and insight into the challenges of navigating transitions, healing from loss, and building a strong sense of self. These experiences guide the way she shows up as a therapist, with openness, authenticity, and respect for each individual’s unique story. She is particularly committed to working with clients exploring identity, cultural-related experiences, or significant life transitions. She also supports Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals, holding space for the layered experiences of culture, family, and generational dynamics. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel comfortable being fully themselves, open, honest, and truly seen. Rebecca’s approach is compassionate and client-centered, drawing from person-centered, narrative, and mindfulness-based practices, as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy and multicultural frameworks. She believes therapy is not about “fixing” someone, but about helping clients reconnect with their voice, values, and inner resources. Together, she works with clients to explore what matters most and foster a deeper sense of clarity, confidence, and connection. You can self-schedule a free consultation at ccservices.janeapp.com.

College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.
Healing and growth happen when you feel safe and supported. In our therapeutic space, you can expect to feel heard, respected, and understood. I will partner with you and draw upon your strengths in a warm, nonjudgmental, and curious way to achieve lasting, meaningful change. Being trained in Marriage and Family Therapy helps me appreciate that relationships matter and impact your well-being. I will use the context of your family and other important relational systems such as school, work, and your community to get to know you better and help you reach your goals. My approach is integrative and client-centered, meaning I rely on various treatment modalities and evidenced-based interventions to best suit you and/or your family’s needs. I treat individuals, couples, and families facing a wide range of issues including relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and school/career difficulties.
My work focuses on adults who experience relationship difficulties (romantic, with family, or friends), anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, academic concerns, and trauma - especially from relationships, prior domestic violence, family, and prejudices (i.e. sizeism, classism, xenophobia, sexism, racism, homophobia, neurodiversity discrimination). I see individuals and couples virtually or in person within a culturally sensitive practice. We recognize the nuanced experiences of marginalized people including people of color, immigrants, 1st gen college students, women, neurodivergent, working class, and queer folks. I see people as shaped by life experiences, relationships, identities, family, culture, and society. Plus we're unique individuals! Our work will consider all of this. I like to collaborate with my clients and strive to be honest, patient, flexible, nonjudgmental, warm, humble, curious, empathic, and social justice minded. I'm a neurotypical, cis, het, biracial, Black Puerto Rican woman from a working class, urban neighborhood. My approach is decolonial, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, immigrant allied, feminist, & trauma-informed. I'm a psychodynamic, relational clinician also trained in CBT, ACT, self-compassion, MI, and attachment. I'm physically located in Rochester, NY.
My background is working with college and graduate/medical student populations. I specialize in relationships and attachment issues, family problems, depression, anxiety, grief, academic stress, adjustment and identity concerns. I enjoy working with my clients to explore how their problems developed, build understanding around why their problematic patterns continue, and empower them to make meaningful changes in their lives. My approach to therapy is integrative and collaborative. I often take an interpersonal approach to help clients face difficult emotions while also employing skills based techniques such as cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy. My style is conversational and my goal is for the therapeutic space to feel comfortable and allow the client to be their authentic self.
