Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, or exploring your identity as an adolescent or young adult in the LGBTQIA+ community, I'm here to walk alongside you. Firstly, I want to say I am glad you are here! My name is Olivia and I am currently a second-year Master’s student at Montclair State University. I previously got my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology which opened my eyes to the importance of mental health. As your therapist-in-training, I am committed to providing a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to express yourself, emotions, and inner thoughts. Vulnerability can be scary, which is why it is important that we work at a pace that is best for you. I take an empathetic approach, actively listening to your current experiences and struggles, while creating plans that would be most effective for your individual needs and goals. Our sessions together will be focused around techniques and tools that would be useful for your overall growth, including using a strengths based approach, emotional regulation techniques, incorporating healthy coping mechanisms, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation. It is my role as your therapist, to help guide and support you in your journey towards healing and self-discovery. I look forward to working with you! Olivia Kanestrin is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with a therapist-in-training accruing clinical hours.
Too much stress can be overwhelming and will affect our concentration, stamina, and clarity of mind. The very nature of trauma is the experience of too much, a feeling of being overwhelmed. My specialty is in Creativity and Trauma and how one informs the other. This is not easy work, but it can be fun. We use what is called a Bottom Up approach, in combination with a Top Down. What this means is we learn to tune into our body brain and not just our head brain. As a Creative Arts psychotherapist and trauma specialist I've discovered ways to work that help you heal, feel better, and help you make more sense out of your life. When we meet first we find out what is going on, what has gone on, and how we want to use our time together. We can continue to talk; we may include some of the modalities in which I am trained (Art Therapy, EMDR...). It depends on what you are most comfortable with, and fits your particular issues and concerns Please know I am exclusively working online
Many of the students I work with describe feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or “stuck,” like they’re doing all the right things on paper but still struggling underneath the surface. They might overthink, hold themselves to very high standards, or find it hard to quiet their mind. Others come to therapy because they’re having trouble managing relationships, navigating big life transitions, or coping with perfectionism and self-doubt. In our work together, we focus on understanding what’s driving your anxiety or stress, learning practical tools to manage it, and developing a more balanced and compassionate relationship with yourself. My approach blends evidence-based strategies (like CBT, ACT, and DBT) with a warm, relational style so therapy feels both structured and genuinely supportive. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, OCD, burnout, or the pressures of being a student in a fast-paced world, therapy can help you slow down, build clarity, and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels more grounded and confident.
I believe everyone is an artist. My therapy works with the creative souls in all of my clients, from dormant creatives to professional artists. Unfortunately, we all experience trauma of some kind during our lives. Traumatic experiences leave scars on our bodies and our minds that can't speak through words. However, we can listen to and understand our unspeakable pain through the creative arts. Art and creativity are the guides that lead us to healing and solace. Talk therapy is a good a way to get to know you, your coping mechanisms, and identify your goals. We go deeper with creative arts such as drawing and writing, as well as working with the body and mindfulness. Most importantly, you will experience the sense of being understood and seen in the mind and heart of a loving, attuned human being. It is my honor to work with you and witness your precious vulnerability. Much of my effort goes to provide a protective environment so we can work at your own pace and comfort level. Finding a therapist requires courage, and asking for help is a sign of strength. Call me for a free consultation and we'll figure it out together.

If you were looking for a sign to try therapy, consider this that sign. Life feels hard, and everyone and everything feels overwhelming. You just want to feel better but don't even know where to begin. You don't have to figure it all out on your own. So let's talk. Even better, let's collaborate. I have a relaxed style based on science but led by empathy and humor. I commonly help clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions, or even just a case of the "blahs." Our work together will be as unique as you are to pinpoint and address your personal goals. I commonly I pull from evidence-based treatments including cognitive and psychodynamic therapies geared to target unhelpful thoughts, build up your coping skills or work through past and current patterns. During our sessions, you can expect to feel safe, seen, and fully embraced- just as you are. I look forward to connecting with you to learn how we can enhance your well-being, alleviate the stress and pain you may be experiencing and find your joy again.
My experience as a therapist includes working at the NYU Counseling Services for many years. I have a deep understanding of the challenges both undergraduate and graduate students face with the changes, separations and transitions involved in becoming independent adults. It is a time filled with excitement as well as stress and worries about the future. The internal and external pressures, expectations from family and demands of the academic world can feel overwhelming at times. For graduate and doctoral students, there are the stressors of completing programs, dissertations and the challenges of seeking employment. Students may also be struggling with feeling alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, dealing with body image self-esteem and sexuality issues as well as social pressures around alcohol and other substances. Therapy can help in navigating these challenges, offer insight and reduce stress. I am a compassionate, extensively trained and interactive therapist. Together, we can work to develop strategies, address negative patterns of thought and behaviors, manage stress and help you deal with relationships more effectively. I am also trained and certified in clinical hypnosis which can be very useful in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and anxiety including phobias, GI issues such as IBS as well as reducing symptoms of depression while increasing self-confidence and success.

Our sessions will put you first and allow for all of you to be seen, validated, and heard. My expertise includes talk therapy, somatic-based psychotherapy, EMDR, movement therapy, & CBT in a trauma-responsive and culturally-affirming space.
