Therapists for college students near Cambridge, MA
Having spent part of my life in Europe and Africa, my background helps me work with a diverse range of clients - from college students and veterans to corporate employees and expats. I am a clinical psychologist and cultural psychologist (Rutgers, PsyD; Harvard, BA) with 19 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults. My specialties include depression, trauma, and anxiety as well as stress, life transitions, cultural adjustment, and relationship issues. I am a caring, interactive therapist and use an integrative approach (ACT, CBT, psychodynamic, and mindfulness techniques) to provide you with a safe space to heal and practice new tools as you reset your life compass. I see therapy as a gift to yourself: making time to build knowledge, awareness, and compassion, try new behaviors, and improve your quality of life. Change is possible at any age if there is courage, flexibility, willingness, and action. I also believe that a variety of things can help us heal and enrich our lives (e.g. music, sports, nature, friendships). I look forward to starting this chapter of compassion, healing, and growth with you and invite you to schedule a free consultation today.

I am passionate about supporting clients in overcoming the many challenges of life through a process of developing self-compassion, identifying and building on strengths, and learning new approaches to achieve a sense of well-being and peace. I have experience working with individuals dealing with challenges of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, social and communication challenges, gender and sexual identity, polyamory, and neurodivergence. My work is fueled by my sincere belief that everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they've got. I use a collaborative approach that integrates a person's intrinsic wisdom and lived experience with my clinical background so that together we can come up with new ideas, perspectives, and strategies. I help my clients acquire skills in reading themselves and learning how to re-adjust if things stray off-course. I hope to help clients foster self-compassion and acceptance. It is an honor to bear witness to someone else's story. I use a gentle, direct, and nonjudgmental approach involving reflection, questions, and humor. I work to help clients gain new understanding of old narratives. This may involve goal-setting, exploration of personal values, or collaboration for accountability. The pace of our daily lives seems only to be increasing in speed, and our ongoing hustle to keep up on a daily basis has only diminished our ability to slow down when we want to. My approach focuses on helping my clients address issues with anxiety, depression, video game addiction, and motivation. I utilize a psychodynamic and relational approach to learn and reflect with my clients to help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves. I am a psychiatrist in private practice for over 20 years, treating patients by integrating psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and, when indicated psychopharmacology. As a physician, I am able to evaluate patients with symptoms which may be medical or psychiatric in origin, understanding the mind-body connection. I see a broad range of patients, some suffering from major mental illness to those healthy individuals seeking to learn more about themselves. A major focus of my private practice is working with college and graduate students. I see students as young as seniors in high school and consult to parents of college age students around the country. I am an Affiliated Psychiatrist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Instructor, Harvard Medical School from 1994-2014. I am a Diplomat, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology re-certified in 2014. I was a staff psychiatrist at Sarah Lawrence College, and more recently, Senior Psychiatric Consultant at Brandeis University from 1997-2012. I believe that every patient is unique, reflecting their development, family history, neuropsychology, traumas, and life experiences. My role is to help the patient develop an integrated personal narrative, exploring unconscious conflicts, understanding the experience of self in relation to others, and to take responsibility, not just for their difficulties, but their strengths as well.
