The therapy session is a time and space one sets aside to focus on self. To be with self. And to build one’s self. It can be challenging to reflect on patterns, thoughts and emotions, relationships, past events and/or change, but it can also be transformative and rewarding. My role as your therapist is to witness your process and to reflect back with you along the way. The therapeutic relationship is an essential piece of my practice and is built on honesty, trust, empathy, and compassion. In conjunction with traditional psychotherapeutic frameworks (CBT, DBT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic), I use Expressive Arts Therapy (Movement, Drama, Music/Sound, Art) to help foster a creative process. When applied therapeutically, a creative process can help a person heal, open up to change, and may offer new feelings, thoughts, insights, and perspectives As a Dance/Movement Therapist, I specialize in using movement as a tool to identify, explore, and shift the way one relates to self, other, and the world around. I believe engaging in an integrative, body based psychotherapy process is a direct and effective path to embodied growth and transformation.
Welcome. My name is Kate, and I offer psychodynamically oriented, trauma-informed, compassionate, and affirming therapy to folks of all kinds. I work with people across the lifespan, many of whom identify as queer and/or neurodivergent and are trying to make sense of a world that can feel overwhelming. Some are living with long-term stress, trauma, anxiety, or depression, while others are seeking support with life transitions, relationships, or family dynamics. I also offer clinical supervision. Clients often value working with me when they feel ready to explore their inner world more deeply—to better understand the hopes and fears beneath relational and behavioral patterns that increase suffering. I also regularly offer skills-based techniques, drawing from DBT, to help with in-the-moment management of distress and emotional overwhelm. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is fundamental to a successful experience. My hope is to provide every client with a safe, supportive space to explore, learn more about themselves, feel truly seen, heard and accepted, build new skills, grow, and reconnect with who they really are. I look forward to connecting with you.
Wherever you may be at in your journey, I look forward to joining you on your path towards greater mental and emotional well-being. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings, and prioritize understanding things from your viewpoint. My main goal is to empower you as we collaborate to examine the impact of your experiences and stressors from new perspectives, to help you heal, and grow. I work with adults to address issues related to chronic pain, substance use, relationship difficulties, anxiety, and depression. I tailor my therapeutic interventions to meet your specific needs, taking a holistic approach to promote self-awareness, as you acquire new skills and refine coping strategies. Each session is an opportunity to gain clarity and acceptance, as you continue to learn how to be with yourself in the present moment. I welcome getting to know you and your story, recognizing the courage it takes to choose what may be more difficult in the near term, and more helpful in the long run.

I am passionate about supporting clients in overcoming the many challenges of life through a process of developing self-compassion, identifying and building on strengths, and learning new approaches to achieve a sense of well-being and peace. I have experience working with individuals dealing with challenges of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, social and communication challenges, gender and sexual identity, polyamory, and neurodivergence. My work is fueled by my sincere belief that everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they've got. I use a collaborative approach that integrates a person's intrinsic wisdom and lived experience with my clinical background so that together we can come up with new ideas, perspectives, and strategies. I help my clients acquire skills in reading themselves and learning how to re-adjust if things stray off-course. I hope to help clients foster self-compassion and acceptance. It is an honor to bear witness to someone else's story. I use a gentle, direct, and nonjudgmental approach involving reflection, questions, and humor. I work to help clients gain new understanding of old narratives. This may involve goal-setting, exploration of personal values, or collaboration for accountability. College is supposed to be exciting, but for a lot of students, it feels more like walking a tightrope: juggling coursework, relationships, pressure to figure out your future and fears of failing. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone and you're not broken. I'm MJ Wright, a licensed therapist with specialized training in anxiety and the unique pressures that come with being a student. I work with teens and young adults who find that their anxiety is getting in the way of the life they want to be living. Maybe you've noticed it showing up as procrastination, perfectionism or the inability to start an assignment even when the deadline is looming. Maybe it's lying awake at 2am replaying a conversation or catastrophizing about your GPA. Maybe you just feel chronically overwhelmed and aren't sure why. Therapy with me is a space where you don't have to perform or have it together. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, using approaches that are grounded in evidence and tailored to what's actually going on in your life. I believe that anxiety is often a signal worth listening to, not just a symptom to eliminate. Together, we'll figure out what it's telling you and help you build a relationship with yourself that's a little less exhausting.
Perhaps you’ve been feeling overwhelmed recently. Or you’re struggling with constant worry and stress. Being a young woman and trying to find your way into adulthood is not an easy path. Anxiety is a common feeling during this time, and a natural human emotion, but too much of it can prevent us from leading the life we want. We all go through difficult times, and sometimes we need a little extra support to see our way through. I view my role as a therapist as a supportive and encouraging guide. Together we’ll explore unhelpful thoughts and patterns getting in the way of you becoming the woman you want to be.
I am a Harvard and Brown University educated board-certified psychiatrist welcoming new patients seeking tailored, patient-centered psychiatric care in Back Bay. However, if symptoms are severe, I will work with you to find a medication that may help. I strongly encourage open and honest communication throughout the treatment process as I want you to get the best possible treatment which aligns with your preferences and goals. Timely and collaborative psychiatric treatment can be transformative and empower you to live your best life.
