Therapists for college students near Nashville, TN
Most of the students I work with are figuring out who they are while juggling school, family, friendships, and their future. Many feel the weight of being “the strong one” for everyone else, but behind closed doors they’re tired, anxious, or questioning if they’re enough. Some are navigating being away from home for the first time, carrying family expectations, or balancing the pressure to succeed with the need to just breathe. Others feel out of place on campus and want a space where they don’t have to explain themselves or code-switch. I connect best with young people under 25 who are ready for honest conversations, who value a therapist that will both listen deeply and challenge them to grow. My goal is to give you room to unpack your story, understand your emotions, and figure out how to move through stress, relationships, and identity with more clarity and confidence.
I love working with people facing challenges in their relationships, whether romantic or otherwise. My goal is to help you identify what you truly want, where you encounter obstacles, and to help you address any self-imposed obstacles. We'll work together to make change happen fast so that what you want is more likely to become reality. I won’t just nod along, so if you're looking for someone who doesn't skirt around the issues, you're on the right profile. I have experience working with a with a variety of concerns, including but not limited to: relationship distress, mood disorders, anxiety, impulsive behavior, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, maladaptive perfectionism, and teens at risk for personality disorders. I'm well-versed in both DBT and RO-DBT, both of which shape my approach to therapy. I have been intensively trained in Radically-Open DBT (RO-DBT), a specialized treatment for Chronic Depression, Anorexia-Nervosa, and disorders of Over-Control (OC). Our practice, PSYCHē, is a private network of therapists across multiple states. Our job is to pair our clients with great clinicians all over the country. PSYCHē also offers various Standard DBT groups and Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) skills classes online ranging from $100-$125. Groups are like a class, not therapy. New members can begin right away! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes therapy should feel safe, human, and a little less intimidating. I earned my MSW from the University of Memphis and have worked in a variety of settings, including clinics, schools, and residential programs. I offer a warm, down-to-earth space where you can talk openly, at your own pace, without judgment. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you and build practical tools for real life. I work by meeting you exactly where you are, taking into account your life, relationships, and environment—not just the problem you’re facing. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT and DBT to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while building practical coping skills. Our work is collaborative, supportive, and paced to fit you I want you to know that whatever brought you here matters. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, or just not quite yourself, you’re not alone—and there’s nothing “wrong” with needing support. So many people carry heavy things quietly, telling themselves they should be able to handle it all. You don’t have to.
College can be one of the most exciting—and overwhelming—seasons of life. Between academic pressure, changing friendships, family expectations, relationships, and figuring out who you are, it’s easy to feel stressed, anxious, or unsure of yourself. You don’t have to navigate that alone. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 10 years of experience supporting teens and young adults through life’s transitions. My approach is strength-based and relationship-focused, meaning I see you as more than your stress, anxiety, or struggles. Together, we’ll build on the strengths you already have while developing practical tools to help you manage overwhelming thoughts, regulate emotions, and feel more confident in your decisions. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness strategies to help you better understand your thought patterns, cope with stress, and respond to challenges in healthier ways. My style is laid back, supportive, and collaborative—I want therapy to feel like a safe space where you can be honest, ask hard questions, and explore who you’re becoming without judgment. Whether you’re feeling anxious about school, struggling with motivation, dealing with relationship conflict, navigating self-worth, or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to walk alongside you as you build clarity, resilience, and confidence in this season of life.
My clients don't come to therapy to hear someone nod and agree with everything they say. That isn't worth their time or money. They want real help. They want to know "what to do" and "how to fix it" because they are struggling with depression, severe anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, suicidal thoughts, parenting issues, and other painful situations. They're looking for a true expert that they can actually talk to. I am a member of PSYPACT which means I can see clients in every state that is a member of PSYPACT. I'm also licensed in both TN and MA. I'm a DBT-Linehan Board Certified Clinician and an expert in Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, self-harm, and oppositional adolescents. I am an Associate faculty member at Vanderbilt University and have served as a trainer and consultant for a variety of hospitals, schools, and the military. I founded and own PSYCHē, PLLC, a private network of therapists across multiple states. Our job is to pair our clients with great clinicians all over the country. PSYCHē also offers various Standard DBT skills groups and Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) skills classes online ranging from $100-$125. New members can begin right away! My counseling style is warm and inviting. I believe in being completely non-judgmental, sensitive and compassionate. I want to start where you are wherever you are in your journey through different human experiences. My psychotherapy approach is a combination of cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, interpersonal, solution focused and client centered. I enjoy working with individuals with traits and tendencies of attachment that manifests by way of questioning self-worth, feeling unworthy of love, fear that healthy relationships cannot exist, obsession with loss and difficulty moving forward, taking on others feelings and beliefs as your own, guilt/shame, inability to receive feedback without feelings of failure/rejection and experiencing confusion/seeking clarity around identity. In my down time, I love to relax and have a good time. For fun, I enjoy listening to music and singing, traveling, trying new restaurants and foods, reading, laughing and spending time with loved ones.
My dedication to mental health comes from an interest in patients’ stories and the need to help them, educate them, and encourage them to take an active role in their care. My goal is to collaborate with my patients with empathy to help them better understand their health so they can make important health decisions. I believe in providing individualized care through a holistic approach. I am Board Certified in General Psychiatry. My areas of expertise include Major Depressive Disorder, Mood Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, and psychosis. I am an avid reader and love cooking, gardening, and painting. I have two children and enjoy spending time with my family.
I enjoy living in the corners and at the fringes of what stereotypical therapy might look like. It is important to me that those who are outcasts, quirky, different, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and the marginalized feel heard. When we work together, I want you to feel like you matter (because you do). If you like the utilization of tarot and oracle cards, we can incorporate that. If you need resources on affirming places to practice spirituality, we can look at those. If you want to talk about kink communities and how to get involved with them, we can find them. Whatever works for you works for me, and I want to help you figure that out.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. For me, being a physician is more than a profession—it is a vocation to help indviduals flourish. My practice is devoted to students and young adults seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care that extends beyond symptom relief. I provide comprehensive evaluations that consider medical, nutritional, lifestyle, and psychological factors—including laboratory testing when clinically appropriate—to identify the contributors to emotional and cognitive health. I also specialize in evidence-based de-prescribing for patients who wish to reduce or discontinue psychiatric medications for anxiety, attention difficulties, or substance use disorders. My approach is guided by precision, humility, and restraint: using the least intensive intervention necessary while drawing upon the full breadth of evidence-based medicine. Depending on each patient's needs and goals, I integrate psychotherapy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, exercise, targeted supplementation, and, when appropriate, carefully selected medications into a personalized treatment plan. In addition to my clinical work, I have presented internationally on psychiatric deprescribing and medical ethics. My work has been recognized with awards from the American Psychiatric Association, the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and other leading professional organizations. I am the Founder & Medical Director of Verigrate Health. I am licensed to serve patients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Lousiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.

When I began college it was 8 years after high school and I was married. I was anxious that I may not be able to get the degrees that I wanted after being out of school for so long, but I was experiencing childlessness and wanted to be a mother. Keeping busy was something that I needed due to major depression. We did not have free college opportunities then, so I had to make the grades in order to finance this endeavor. This became a goal which required good study habits and commitment. I attended a community college first, then UTC, and then I completed my masters at Grand Canyon University with a 4.0 GPA. This paid for all of the undergraduate work but not for my Master's, which landed me in debt, but I survived. I became a therapist to help individuals make sense of their experiences and navigate life's challenges. I’m passionate about facilitating meaningful change that reduces isolation and strengthens coping with pain, stress, and trauma. I believe therapy benefits everyone and that all individuals deserve a space where they feel heard, understood, and safe. I accept self-pay clients (college age) for telehealth and in-person visits and am in-network with many insurers. I currently accept the following, including Medicaid/TennCare (TN), Medicare (TN), Aetna, WellPoint/Amerigroup, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Commercial & Medicaid), Tricare, Ambetter, UHC Commercial and Medicaid, and WellCare. Clients describe me as empathetic, understanding, encouraging, and attentive; I provide safe, nonjudgmental support while fostering growth by building trust, meeting you where you are, and treating the whole person—ensuring you feel heard, validated, and understood. My primary objective is to treat the whole person using an affirming, strengths‑based approach that helps each client feel empowered, respected, and seen. I believe everyone possesses talents and skills that can be mobilized to overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful goals. If you are ready to begin, please reach out by email, text, or phone to schedule an appointment or ask any questions.
I get it. It you're going through a lot each day, feeling like you have to be perfect at everything you try and always needing to make sure everyone else is happy. This can leave you feeling totally worn out, like you're constantly running on empty, and still that nagging feeling of "never enough" just won't go away. Maybe you're carrying worries and stress around with you all the time, and perhaps some tough things from the past are making things even harder. Please know that I see how much you're dealing with, and I'm here to help you find a way through this. Together, we can gently work on these patterns so you can start feeling less pressured and more truly content in your life. I focus specifically on helping people who struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, and that "never enough" feeling, along with related stress and anxiety. I understand how these issues connect for you. Clients often choose me because they feel truly understood and see a clear path towards lasting relief, not just quick fixes. Imagine finding a calm and comfortable space in your own home for our sessions. It will feel like a private conversation in a calm and comfortable space. We'll gently explore those habits of trying to be perfect and always saying "yes," understanding where they came from and how they affect you now. I'll listen with a warm and open heart, creating a safe space for you to share without judgment, all from the comfort of your surroundings. Together, we'll learn to set healthy boundaries, be kinder to yourself, and truly believe in your worth, right from where you feel most at ease. You'll gain simple ways to handle stress and worries. As we connect, you'll hopefully feel that pressure to be perfect ease, find it easier to say "no," and feel more calm and present in your day, leading to more energy and peace within yourself. For our sessions, imagine a calm and comfortable space around your school or in your dorm where you can truly feel safe and open up. Building trust is really important here; I want you to feel completely yourself, knowing I'm listening with genuine understanding and without judgment. That said, don’t think that I’m only here to provide the non-judgmental listening, I will give healthy pushbacks and help challenge those unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Together, we'll explore the issues that have been holding you back, understanding their roots and their impact. As partners, we'll work on setting healthy boundaries, cultivating self-compassion, and recognizing your inherent worth, empowering you with practical tools to handle stress and worries as you move towards a life with less pressure, more genuine connection, and a deeper sense of your own "enoughness."
In this era of technology and quick fixes, it easy for one to think "I did ____wrong, I'm so broken and will never ____." If you are a person thinking this, you are missing a very important fact. You are a person, not a computer, or car, or toy, or any other object that needs to be fixed. Patterns are a different thing altogether. At Breaking Patterns Therapy, we believe that patterns of thought and behavior can be broken or altered in a way to allow you to live the life that you want to be living. We use a combination of therapy types, but at the end of the day, it is the relationship and conversation between the client and the therapist that find the new patterns that make life a little bit kinder. We look forward to helping you discover and remake those patterns.
