Do you ever feel anxious and bothered by thoughts and emotions that make no sense? Do you have strong reactions and think "where did THAT come from?" You're not alone. Sometimes our brain holds on to experiences that were difficult or distressing from our past and during stressful moments, we get triggered by these seemingly unrelated thoughts and feelings. I help my clients understand how their early experiences shape their current lives. Together, we’ll explore unhelpful thoughts and emotions and develop new, effective ways of interacting with them that bring us Peace. I specialize in the treatment of adult survivors of childhood trauma. You will find it fascinating to realize how many of your automatic behaviors are survival strategies that you developed as a child. You will explore your “trains of thought” and learn how you can switch tracks and feel safer, happier, and more in control of your life. Virtual only. I know what it is to be overwhelmed by anxiety, to allow it to fill my brain with swirling, negative thoughts and judgments. I found my way to healing and I can help you to do the same. You deserve to have peace. You deserve to believe in yourself and like yourself. Call or email for a free consultation.

During my 17 years experience as a counselor and research clinician, I was trained to utilize several semi-structured interviewing tools such as KSADS, SCID, and ISCA-D. I have published social psychology testing materials at the University of Pittsburgh while working on several major nationally-funded depression and anxiety studies under Doctors Birmaher, Axelson, and Kovacs. In 2010, I spent a year as a volunteer with the Good Grief Center of Pittsburgh where I had extensive training in grief counseling. In addition to my clinical skills, I hold a substance abuse education/SAP certification from UPMC. My name is Sandra Dickinson, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a mother to four. I specialize in trauma and anxiety and the issues that come with loss, disappointment, and uncertainty. Many of the clients I work with are navigating life transitions—such as adjusting to college life, are in difficult relationships, many are struggling with pregnancy and postpartum, infertility, adoption, parenting, or caregiving. I have many years of experience working with Veterans and military spouses, and supporting people after they have experienced trauma. If anxiety feels like it’s running your life or your relationship feels stuck in painful patterns, you’re not alone. Many of the individuals and couples I work with feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. I’m Anna Clemente, and I offer a warm, supportive space where we can slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and build healthier ways of coping and communicating. Many of my clients are thoughtful people who appear to be managing well on the outside but internally feel anxious, stuck, or disconnected. I specialize in anxiety and couples work, using a systemic and relational approach to help clients understand patterns that keep them feeling stuck. With couples, I focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and strengthening emotional connection using the Gottman Method and EFT, while integrating CBT and IFS when helpful. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s important to find someone who feels like the right fit. If you’re curious about working together, I’d be happy to connect for a brief consultation to answer any questions and see if it feels like a good match. You’re welcome to reach out by inquiry or text whenever you feel ready.

During our time together I will work to create an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance so you feel free sharing and exploring whatever is troubling you. My approach is a trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive integration of attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive therapy which emphasizes (1) trusting the client as an expert of their own reality, (2) exploring the patterns through which we come to understand ourselves, others, and the world, and (3) seeking meaningful emotional experiences in a safe therapeutic relationship. Welcome to The Hawthorne Center! We are a private practice run by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Chelsea Mazzotta. We offer in-person services in Allison Park, PA, and virtual services throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and The District of Columbia. Our practice specializes in working with folks who are interested in processing how their families, communities, and other systems have shaped them. We understand that trauma also includes "isms"- such as racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and other forms of oppression that impact us throughout our lives. We love working with college students, young adults beginning their careers, and specialize in working with polyamorous individuals/couples, LGBTQ folks, and women. We also specialize in working with first-responders- those working in fields or training to work in fields such as healthcare/medicine, law enforcement, therapy/counseling, and other first responders. We are in-network with most UPMC, Highmark/BCBS, Optum, United, and Aetna plans in Pennsylvania. In DC and Ohio, we may accept some of the above plans or may be out of network (depending on your location). We are able to offer superbills if you would like to utilize out-of-network or private pay options. Questions about superbills? Please ask! Please reach out with questions! We'd be happy to chat.
Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer, activists, neurodivergent, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story. We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, or the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard. From there, we look deeper at the patterns, relationships, and stories that shaped how you move through the world. We explore what matters to you at your own pace. Our work together isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's about understanding what has happened to you, how you've adapted, and finding out what is possible when we have more awareness and more options. My approach is a deeply relational one. You're the expert on your own life and I'm here to serve as a supporter and collaborator in the process.
Feeling burnt out, stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or having trouble adjusting or coping? If you are feeling any or all of the above and are looking for someone non-judgmental and empathetic, I would love to meet you for a consultation. Please note, there is some flexibility in my schedule, let me know if you need a time other than those listed. There are times in life where we all need someone to provide us support, encouragement, insight, and help us to look at things in a different perspective. The hardest step is often deciding to seek help, great job in already taking that step towards a happier and healthier you!
