I use a humanistic, person-centered approach, utilizing a trauma-informed perspective. I strongly believe in the counselor-individual relationship, and feel a person's experiences influence their outlook and approach to the world. Through this approach, I feel individuals have the potential to grow if they have the support and environment to do so.

College can be a time of fun and excitement, but it can also be a time of stress and anxiety. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here at Village Therapy Practice, LLC who works hard to help clients (individuals, couples, and families) feel heard, understood, and validated. Using a systemic approach, I help each of my clients identify the underlying root cause of their struggles- such as depression, anxiety, adjustment, or relationship issues- and work to change the unhealthy patterns that keep them stuck in conflict. As a Penn State graduate myself (We Are!), I would love the opportunity to walk along students through this important journey!

The families and students who thrive in my practice often arrive seeking support for the very real challenges they face—challenges that can feel isolating, overwhelming, or misunderstood in other settings. Many of my clients are navigating: Autism and the need for a more affirming, strength-based approach that values neurodiversity. ADHD and the daily push-pull of focus, impulsivity, and emotional intensity. The lingering effects of trauma, where safety, trust, and connection need to be rebuilt. Executive function struggles that impact school, home routines, and relationships. Emotional regulation challenges, especially when big feelings lead to big reactions. A deep desire to improve family communication, but feeling stuck in old patterns. What they share is not just the presence of these challenges—but also a commitment to change, a curiosity about their own growth, and families who want to better understand and support one another. In our work together, we don’t just manage behaviors—we build insight, confidence, and skills. We make space for emotional expression, teach tools that empower independence, and strengthen co-regulation and communication across the whole family system.

As a first-generation college graduate, I know how challenging it can be to find your way. For this reason, I helped students on their college journeys for over a decade before transitioning to clinical practice. Many of my clients are cycle-breakers: the first in their family to address mental health concerns and build healthier relationships. I help clients manage anxiety, depression and challenging family relationships (i.e. emotionally immature parents/adults). You CAN have a different experience. If this resonates with you, schedule a free consultation to talk about how I can support you on your journey.

College can be an incredible time of growth, but it can also feel overwhelming, lonely, or uncertain. If you’re navigating stress, grief, identity questions, relationship struggles, or just feeling stuck, I’m here to support you without judgment. My style is down-to-earth, collaborative, and focused on what matters most to you. I won’t just nod and take notes, I’ll listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and work with you to find real tools and clarity. I care deeply about creating a safe space where you can be your full self, whether you're used to therapy or just testing the waters. Outside of therapy, I’m a parent, a dog lover, and someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people on a human level. You're not alone in what you're going through, and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Let’s talk when you’re ready.

Our journeys are filled with moments that require us to muster resilience, practice self-compassion, and foster hope—even when the path seems unclear. Our mission is to offer a therapeutic environment that is both welcoming and collaborative, focusing on the individual as a whole rather than a constellation of symptoms. Welcome! I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice at PhilaPsy, where I offer psychotherapy for adults of all ages and specialize in working with individuals in early to middle adulthood. I have a varied practice, with people coming to therapy for a wide range of reasons. My areas of particular focus include working with young adults and adults navigating anxiety, depression, transitions or changes in life, stress, self-esteem, identity, relationship issues, interpersonal conflict, trauma, and feeling lonely, angry, empty or stuck. Across contexts, I provide identity affirming, culturally responsive, relational care. Therapy invites people to explore, process, and make sense of their ideas, emotions, experiences, challenges, and areas of conflict. I approach this work with collaboration and curiosity, bringing focus to how our relationships, social systems, personal histories, and development inform the ways we experience ourselves, others, and the worlds we inhabit. I believe a central part of feeling helped is finding a therapist who brings hope, humor, safety, and a sense of belonging. With the right fit, therapy can provide building blocks for people to heal, find community, uncover a path for themselves, and discover ways of living in this world that feel meaningful. If you are interested in reaching out, I offer a free phone consultation to get a sense of what you are looking for, address questions, and discuss possible next steps. Together, we can determine if we might be a good fit. To learn more about my work, please visit: philapsy.com

When many people begin therapy, they don't know where to start. That is totally normal and no one I see needs to have all the answers right now. The people I work with often are going through a tough transition, experiencing stress at school, struggling with feelings of anxiety or depression, or they may have had something really distressing happen to them. Often, they may be noticing patterns of avoidance, procrastination, and self-shaming. Sometimes they're also experiencing stress in their relationships. Whatever is happening, I honor how challenging the process of reaching out for support can be, and I am here to help by working together with those who come to my practice. I specialize in attachment based EMDR therapy, which is incredibly useful for addressing distressing events (in the past or present); chronic stress, severe anxiety, and feeling like you are "stuck" on an issue that just doesn't seem to go away. It can also help resolve old wounds that are impacting current relationships. I'm here to help make the process of beginning therapy easier and help create a sense of safety by collaborating with you to address your needs. I also respect that paying for therapy can be complicated. To help, I offer a service where I can submit billing info to a service that files documentation with your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursements. If eligible, you may be able to receive a portion of your money back for therapy, making payment easier. I am also able to check to see if you're eligible for reimbursement. If you are a student in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Florida, the next step is to email or call me today. I look forward to connecting!

The Therapy Gal was created to destigmatize and normalize mental health and therapy. We have a lighthearted approach to describing therapy, and a more thoughtful style in how we approach each individual client. As systemically trained therapists – meaning we take your system into consideration (i.e. your caregivers, siblings, school, friends, etc.) – we can better assess what makes you you, and what has affected you thus far. Our goal is to support you through becoming the best version of yourself, and to help you become well-equipped with various coping strategies that will get you through these tough transitional periods.

Hi I am Abby. I have worked a lot with college students struggling to adjusting to some of the major changes college life can be and help navigate difficult social, academic, or family situations in order to allow you to have the best experience you can. If you're navigating things like perfectionism, people-pleasing, struggles with socializing, a sense of “adulting wrong,” or questioning parts of yourself, I’d be like to support you. I take an approach of being curious about parts of ourselves and work to understand them with compassion rather than judgement. These thoughts and behavioral patterns that may have served an important role once might need to be adapted to who you are now. Let's be curious about them rather than hard on ourselves. I would like to answer any questions you may have so please send me an email, book on my website, or give me a call.
