Therapists for college students near 19104
Being a student is a tough time of transition. There are alot of feelings that are swirling around, along with having to "stay on top of all of your academics and/or sports". For many students, it is the first time living without parents/guardians. You have to deal with faculty, and manage expectations from others as well as yourself. College life can be fun, but at the same time very stressful! Sometimes the stress causes other problems to pop up that you have not had to deal with before, or perhaps you did, but on a manageable level. Counseling can be an opportunity to talk through alot of these frustrations, and challenges. It can be a time to also find out about other resources in the world that can be helpful. Either way, it is YOUR time to figure out what would be helpful, and to get it! Reach out to Rays of Hope, we are eager to assist you during this time! PLEASE NOTE: I ALSO have office hours in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. which is right outside of Phila. near City Line Avenue.

You are the expert on you, and you already possess all the tools necessary to heal and achieve your goals! Life experiences however can cause those tools or skills to become buried. In a safe and supportive therapeutic environment my role is to help uncover your “toolbox”, remove the broken or ineffective tools, sharpen the dull ones, and add a few new shiny ones. To embark on this counseling journey several critical therapeutic ingredients are needed: safety, empathy, and trust (SET). You'll lead and I'll closely follow, serving as a skillfully trained second pair of eyes and ears.

Can you imagine what it would be like to turn the volume down on your anxiety? Anxiety is an essential part of our lives — it can keep us safe, healthy, and motivated. However there are times when our bodies can start to feel anxious, or we can be flooded with anxious thoughts and the worry is no longer helpful to us. If anxiety and anxious behaviors have started to feel like they are taking over your life, then you are in the right place. My approach is grounded in a collaborative, client-centered framework. Together, we will identify and address the specific fears and compulsions that impact your daily life. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and board-certified art therapist (ART-BC) in the state of Pennsylvania. I provide trauma-informed care for adults struggling with anxiety and OCD. I use the evidence-based practice of exposure-based cognitive behavioral therapy to support clients in gaining control over their anxiety. Anxiety and OCD are greatly misunderstood and misrepresented in our society. Often, our thoughts and behaviors can leave us feeling isolated and ashamed. I aim to build trust, allowing you to explore and confront difficult emotions and situations at a pace that feels right for you.
Therapy is a great tool to explore how your past experiences and early relationships influence your current relationships, symptoms of anxiety, depression, and how you navigate and process feelings. I truly believe the relational component to therapy (relationship between therapist and patient) can bring to light reactions, feelings, and patterns that show up outside of the therapy space. With this, you can begin to gain insight into how these experiences make you feel and make changes that align with your wants and needs. My hope is to create a collaborative, non-judgmental and validating space to allow for exploration of concerns and enable growth. I encourage you to contact me so we can begin to explore what is holding you back from living a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
If you haven’t heard this yet, you aren’t too much or too complicated. You can be helped and it is not too late. You do not have to do this alone. I want to be on this journey with you. I'm a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) specializing in addiction and substance use. With over 13 years experience, I have seen and heard it all. Addiction comes with many complications; I anticipate that. I treat co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic medical issues, women's issues, and complex family dynamics. It's ok to not know where to start. My goal is to give you a space where you can feel free to explore the things you keep tucked inside. You set our pace. I am client-centered using CBT with motivational interviewing and experiential work. I believe that there are connections between past and present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Transitions: An Athletic and Life Skills Program was developed in July 1999 because of the need to educate individuals across the life span of the strategies and skills used for successful transitions in life. Individuals already possess the skills that are needed. However, they may be unaware of their own strategies and/or their skills are not fully developed. Through my counseling services and the life skills program, needs of the individual are met by utilizing individual or group counseling sessions, couples, marriage or family counseling, workshops, speaking engagements and/or group/team building exercises with all being provided with personal attention. In 2007, the company name was changed to Transitions Counseling Service and Life Skills Program. Hi! My name is Emma and I’m a white, queer, cis femme millennial therapist. I know that’s a lot of descriptors, but social identity is core to my therapy practice. I believe that our social identities, along with our personal histories and relationships, shape our experience of the world. I’m a relational psychotherapist, which means I’m interested in your relationships and how they shape your life. This also means that our therapeutic relationship is the main tool for your growth and healing. When you feel heard and validated, it gives you the foundation to build healthy relationships with yourself and others. I’m not the kind of therapist who sits back and scribbles on a notepad. I believe that you’re the expert of your life and I’m here to support you—to hold the map, flashlight, and the bag of snacks. In my pre-therapist former life, I was a teaching artist, workshop facilitator, and nonprofit program coordinator. My academic journey focused on intersectional queer and feminist theory, history, and literature. I’ve also been active in organizing around racial and economic issues in my communities. I’m kink positive, fat positive, and pleasure positive. I affirm poly and queer identities. I believe white supremacy and internalized capitalism dehumanize us, and therapy is a space to name, process, and grieve these impacts. I might be the right therapist for you if: - you have anxiety and/or depression -you identify as LGBTQ or navigating questions around these identities -you struggle in relationships with family, friends, or partners, particularly around boundaries -you have experienced trauma -you navigate challenges around body image and self-esteem I also offer a free video consultation to see if we’re the right fit. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to take the next step!
Are you feeling stuck? Or perhaps you are struggling with difficult emotions, distressing thoughts, or a sense of disconnection from yourself and/or others. Are coping skills that worked in the past failing to make a difference or are now part of the problem? I believe that therapy can provide a unique space to work through difficult life experiences. My goal is to provide you with a safe, supportive, collaborative space that fosters long-term change by helping you understand the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that get you off track and develop the skills to manage life's challenges. We all have the ability to cultivate a meaningful life, one informed by your values and the things that matter. My approach is grounded in evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I integrate mindfulness, positive psychology, biofeedback, and humor in my approach to treatment.
My style of therapy is very laid back, as I believe comfort is the most important part of the therapy process. In order to discuss difficult topics or begin to work towards goals, there has to be a strong therapeutic relationship. I begin to build this relationship by getting to know my client's personalities, family structure, work life, friendships, etc. Once I get to know you, I can better understand patterns, coping skills, and/or emotions that may be occurring in response to stressors. I also am very client-centered and will tailor the therapy process around what is best for each client. Everyone is different and that means that therapy will look different for each person.
I work with individuals and couples who feel like they want more out of their relationships, career, as a parent, or with their decisions. I help people identify the patterns that they are part of that are not helpful in achieving joy, and I work with them to create different patterns that will lead them to a more fulfilling life.

I'm trained in several trauma treatments (Prolonged Exposure and DBT-PE), however haven't provided these via telehealth yet - though it's something I'm willing to explore if you are! Working with college and graduate students is something I'm passionate about because I know how difficult it can be to go through life's transitions, not know who you are and who you want to be, and balance school, friends, and work. Whether you're just out of high school, returning from some time off, or changing careers, I'm here to support you through those life transitions. While most of my availability is in the evenings, I can be flexible and offer time during a lunch break or weekends, if needed. College can be an incredible time of growth, but it can also feel overwhelming, lonely, or uncertain. My style is down-to-earth, collaborative, and focused on what matters most to you.
