Working together, you can expect a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment, with a supportive partner who meets you where you’re at and builds trust through authenticity and compassion. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Mindfulness-based care, and creative interventions to help you gain insight and develop practical coping skills. My style is collaborative and flexible, tailored to your unique needs and goals. I look forward to helping you feel empowered, understood, and confident as you work toward growth and balance. My path to becoming a therapist grew from years of working closely with children and families as a nanny, dance teacher, and school-based clinician. These experiences in both clinical and school-based settings deepened my commitment to providing empathetic, developmentally informed care. In my practice now, I bring warmth, creativity, and genuine curiosity to each session, honoring every patient’s unique story. I am also planning to pursue my Doctor of Social Work, reflecting my commitment to ongoing growth, ethical practice, and providing thoughtful, high-quality care to every patient I serve. In both my personal and professional life, I value balance, self-reflection, and creative expression. Outside of therapy, I nurture my mind and body through creative movement, including dance, Pilates, yoga, meditation, mindfulness practices, and journaling. I also enjoy exploring spirituality, tarots, and manifestation for a well-rounded life.

My name is Amy Read and I am an Adult & Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I have specialized my interests in health & wellness after years of struggling with my own symptoms ... symptoms of pain, brain fog, IBS, difficulty with focus, inability to concentration, a very forgetful memory, and so many more. Like so many other suffering I feared the worse, I believed I must have early onset dementia or even cancer. Luckily, I was cleared of anything life threating, but I was told nothing could be done to make me feel better. I realized that I had to find a way to change the outcome, because I was not going to let my life slip by. Because of my personal challenges, I found functional medicine. I found a way to "cure" myself and reclaim my life. It was hard. It took a lot of time. It took work. It took family support. Now I am able to live again and I have many roles and titles, the best of which is being a mother to 6 beautiful children. I love the sun and the beach, if I have a day off that's where you'll find me! The water is mesmerizing and the sun enlightens my soul! I am now a functional medicine practitioner nurse practitioner and bring over 25 years of experience into my practice. Functional medicine has saved my life and become my passion for helping others. My own triumphs and trials with depression, anxiety, ADHD, food sensitivities and fibromyalgia allow me to have a deep understanding of what my clients are going through and what they need to have in order to achieve the life of their dreams. Through my programs, clients who are committed and ready for change, are able to obtain optimal health and wellness.

My approach is down-to -earth and professional. I believe in the importance of humor and self compassion in our time together. Being transparent in therapy is crucial; meaning I will share with you why I am asking about certain things or suggesting certain ways of coping. You will find I am easy to talk to and respect how important our time together is. I have 23 years of experience in the mental health field working with people's symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. Much of that time has been specializing in working with college students and people looking to go into helping professions (e.g. nurses, therapists, doctors)

College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.

Do you feel stuck? Perhaps you recognize that something in your life isn't working and you've tried to fix things or make changes, but it didn't work and you find yourself feeling exhausted, defeated, confused, helpless, hopeless, or overwhelmed. Or maybe you have no idea where to start. You've landed in the right place because getting unstuck is my specialty. Reaching out for help is a courageous choice. I am honored to provide a safe space for clients to pause, reflect, process, learn, and grow. My goal is to empower clients to live fully and embrace a lifestyle that sustains a sense of well-being. I am licensed in NY, PA, IL, and NH, which allows me to support students year-round who may live in one state and go to school in another, or who plan to move to another state following graduation. Transitions are often a time of increased stress so finding a therapist who can be present *virtually* throughout is important. In addition to our work together in session, I make use of an app that is free to my clients to provide resources between sessions and collect data to create a personalized approach to treatment.
