Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you’re always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don’t always understand your reactions. Let’s work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish! I provide virtual therapy to clients located in New York, Florida, and internationally.
Life can be overwhelming. The challenges of living with social isolation, emotional pain, grief, anxiety and depression can prevent us from living the life we desire. The effects of trauma can be unbearable and intolerable and can affect both the individual and those around them. Low self esteem and destructive urges and behaviors deter from productive and satisfying lives. Together, we'll improve your ability to express your feelings, reflect on your reactions and behaviors, develop life skills and gain awareness that can lead you to a more effective and full-filling life. My approach is validating and collaborative - Warm, down-to-earth and non-intimidating, I use DBT, EMDR and DBR to best address the needs of my clients. As a former student-athlete, I understand how tough it can be to balance everything, whether it is school, sports or just life in general. That’s why I’m passionate about supporting young adults and the LGBTQ+ community who are dealing with anxiety, depression, or going through major life transitions. Being an athlete showed me how important it is to have a good support system, and I want to be that supportive presence for my clients as they work through their own challenges. I aim to create a nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I use a blend of evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand and manage their thoughts and emotions. Using expressive and mindfulness-based practices, we will tap into your creativity, self-expression, and find your own inner calm. My mission as a therapist is to meet each person with empathy and compassion, making sure to support their unique story while helping them discover their inner strength and potential. I’m here to help you navigate what’s hard, celebrate what’s working, and discover what’s possible. I want therapy to feel like a safe, welcoming space where you can be yourself and figure things out at your own pace. Therapy with me is a team effort and you're never alone in the process.
Therapy is a powerful tool in the process of inviting our most authentic selves to emerge. My approach is grounded in an integrative blend of Eastern and Western modalities and philosophies with the goal of fostering a greater connection between the mind, body, and spirit. In sessions, we will bring awareness to the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to better understand the blockages that are preventing you from living a fully expressed life. I provide a compassionate and safe container to work towards healing past wounds while addressing present problems. I received my Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University and have been trained in Holistic Psychotherapy by Rebecca Greene, LMHC, CYT. My treatment modalities include Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Relationship Counseling, and Interpersonal Psychology. I have experience working with a wide range of clients across various stages of life who are working through issues related to relationships, codependency, grief, past and present trauma, anxiety, stress, and the feeling of overwhelm, spirituality, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. I am affirming of diverse orientations, identities, relationships, and family systems including, but not limited to Polyamory and Consensual Non Monogamy, LGBTQAI2+, Genderqueer, Kink/BDSM, Monogamous, Straight, and committed Allies and family members. I welcome your email or call to set up a no-fee consultation session so we can explore the possibility of working together!
I support individuals to navigate through stressors and life transitions. I help individuals to enhance communication skills to foster empowerment while strengthening confidence in their ability to create positive change. My goal is to support you to empower yourself to make informed decisions that align with your values and desired outcomes. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution Focused and Strengths Based approaches to remain action oriented, collaboratively working towards your goals. I support clients with developing awareness and viewing the big picture. For me therapy is the work that you do outside of the session time. The mindful & intentional efforts you make to reflect & apply new skills as well as new perspectives to your day-to-day experience; that's where the change will really take place. The work I do with my clients is often centered around Self-Love; being able to nurture acceptance of your true self is often the key to alleviating a vast number of concerns and challenges. I feel passionate about supporting individuals & couples to re-define their boundaries & take ownership of their identity. Collaboration is the key to success!

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. It usually means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time. I work with college students and young adults who are trying to keep up on the outside while feeling stressed, burned out, or unsure of themselves on the inside. Therapy with me is practical, supportive, and focused on helping you understand what’s actually driving your anxiety, overthinking, or self-doubt, and what to do about it in real life. Sessions are a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and build tools you can use outside of therapy. You don’t need to have the right words, a clear goal, or a crisis to start. We take things at your pace and figure it out together. If you’re curious about therapy but not sure it’s for you, a consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit.
When you make the decision to attend therapy, you are making the decision to prioritize your wellbeing in a fundamentally unique way. Therapy is something that can be challenging, but also transformative– Especially for those who have not been listened to, believed, or had the freedom to pause and practice introspection due to the demands of life. Knowing the challenges of finding a therapist who can understand your life experiences, I prioritize working with communities with whom I share personal experience. This includes, but is not limited to: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, sex worker, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled communities. My work is grounded in Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as an essential part of the therapeutic process. I aim to minimize power dynamics in the room between therapist and client, and firmly believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than an authority in the room, I see my role as a collaborator in helping you achieve your therapy goals. For those who wish to know my social location: I am a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, polyamorous, non-binary therapist in my 30s. I come from a middle-class background in a mixed race household, am a US citizen, and was raised Catholic but am not religious. I approach therapy as a team effort grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, fat liberatory, sex & kink positive, and feminist ideals. My therapy practice is eclectic, borrowing from multiple modalities in order to find the best approach for each individual client, couple, or polycule. Common approaches I incorporate include: EFT (emotion focused therapy), IFS (internal family systems), Sex Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I work with clients on a variety of topics, but special interests include: Unpacking attachment wounds using IFS; Transition stages in Poly/ENM; Freedom from shame regarding sex & kink; Impacts of disability; Relationships to health, disordered eating, and/or fatness from a fat liberatory and body neutrality lens. If you are curious about working together, please email lowell@expressyourselftherapynyc.com to set up a free consultation.
The majority of my clients come to therapy expressing feelings of being overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, and stuck. I help Clients work through their feelings and develop effective coping skills. Upon completion of therapy, clients walk away with a feeling of renewal and self-confidence to manage life's challenges and enjoy life.

Life can feel overwhelming these days, and meaningful relationships, joys and values can be hard to sustain. The coping patterns we adopt often get in the way of feeling better, and connected with others. My practice fosters an empathetic environment where clients are at ease exploring emotions and concerns. Collaboratively, we address issues such as anxiety, depression and self-esteem struggles, and tackle problems such as relationship difficulties, life transitions, loss and school-related stressors. Jointly, we will define concrete goals, develop real-life coping skills and become more aware of underlying barriers to well-being. I am an LCSW (NYU) with a psychodynamic approach. I also draw on techniques from mindfulness-based therapies and trauma-informed methodologies. A former art history professor and undergraduate advisor (B.A. & M.A., Williams; Ph.D. U.Chicago), I understand the particular challenges college students face. Often, the hardest step about therapy is the decision to begin. I welcome the opportunity to meet you and explore how I can be helpful to you.

During these times, having a supportive co-pilot can be invaluable in helping us stay focused on our goals. I frequently employ an integrative approach in my practice.
