Therapists for college students near Cambridge, MA
College (and life in general) can be a lot. Whether you're adjusting to a big transition, feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you, or trying to make sense of things that have happened in your life, you don't have to figure it out alone. I’m a therapist who works with adolescents, young adults, and caregivers, with a special focus on supporting LGBTQ+ folks. I'm part of the LGBTQ community too. I work from a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens, which means I pay attention to the full context of your life and how the world around you has shaped your experiences. My style is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. I bring humor when it's helpful, and I don't expect you to show up any particular way. You can be messy, unsure, overwhelmed. I’ll meet you there without judgment. Everyone deserves to feel safe and heard. Therapy with me is a place to slow down, get curious, and start making sense of what’s been hard while finding your way back to yourself. I take insurance and offer a free 15-minute call to see if we're a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!
I provide therapy to adolescents and young adults. We can work together to address the stressors in your life and improve your overall wellbeing. Whether you want to address symptoms of depression or anxiety, work on self-esteem, relationship stress, family issues, improve performance in sport, or would benefit from support during a life transition, I want to provide you with a supportive space. My approach to therapy is collaborative and flexible. I most often utilize cognitive behavioral tools and a strength-based approach in my work. I try to provide a warm and engaging environment that will meet you where you are, while also knowing that sometimes we all need to be challenged in order to grow. It can be hard and intimidating to take the next step in your mental health journey, but you deserve to feel better and I would like to see if I can help you do that. Let's connect to see if we would be a good match.
Margot brings a warm and interactive style to her psychotherapeutic practice, which can best be described as “eclectic,” as she believes that not one type of therapy is right for everyone. Pulling from psychodynamic (insight-oriented) psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness/meditation, and somatics (the integration of body/mind/spirit), Margot will tailor her practice to people’s individual needs depending on the particular issues they would like to address in therapy. Margot is committed to serving traditionally marginalized communities including people of color, queer and transgender/gender non-conforming people, poly and kink identified people, and people with disabilities. Entering into therapy can feel overwhelming and vulnerable. My initial goals are always to understand what brings you into therapy, give you a sense of how I practice, and talk together about whether I am a good fit for you. I encourage an ongoing and open conversation about our treatment relationship and progress towards your goals. I practice from the fundamental belief that healing can occur in an attuned, compassionate relationship marked by curiosity. Clients describe me as interactive, collaborative, warm, and nonjudgemental. My practice is heavily influenced by mindfulness-based approaches. It is a privilege to support clients in making sense of the challenges they are facing, enhance their comfort with riding waves of strong feeling, and to respond to their thoughts and feelings in a more compassionate way.
Welcome! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and psychotherapist. One of my areas of emphasis is counseling undergraduate and graduate students who are navigating the complexities of college life and balancing the demands that often accompany this time. It is common for these years to bring discovery and connection as well as stress, pressure and anxiety. In collaboration, we can work through what is challenging or making you feel stuck or avoidant. We can address mental health concerns that may be disrupting your path. We will look at your day-to-day functioning as well as the bigger picture of your life. I will support you in taking meaningful steps towards your goals. I have extensive specialized experience treating OCD, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and BFRBs. While in training, I also completed an internship at a college counseling center where I had the wonderful opportunity to counsel students entering healthcare professions. It can be helpful for potential clients to know ahead of time that I am "in- network" with Boston University Aetna Student Health specifically. If you have this insurance, your visits are covered and you are only responsible for your copay. In all other cases, I am "out-of network." I am happy to offer a superbill invoice you can submit to your insurance for partial or full reimbursement, if you have out-of-network benefits and are eligible for reimbursement. If you aren't sure whether you do, you can call the phone number on your insurance card to ask. I am licensed in MA and CT. I look forward to getting to know you!
I am a psychiatrist in private practice for over 20 years, treating patients by integrating psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and, when indicated psychopharmacology. As a physician, I am able to evaluate patients with symptoms which may be medical or psychiatric in origin, understanding the mind-body connection. I see a broad range of patients, some suffering from major mental illness to those healthy individuals seeking to learn more about themselves. A major focus of my private practice is working with college and graduate students. I see students as young as seniors in high school and consult to parents of college age students around the country. I am an Affiliated Psychiatrist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Instructor, Harvard Medical School from 1994-2014. I am a Diplomat, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology re-certified in 2014. I was a staff psychiatrist at Sarah Lawrence College, and more recently, Senior Psychiatric Consultant at Brandeis University from 1997-2012. I believe that every patient is unique, reflecting their development, family history, neuropsychology, traumas, and life experiences. My role is to help the patient develop an integrated personal narrative, exploring unconscious conflicts, understanding the experience of self in relation to others, and to take responsibility, not just for their difficulties, but their strengths as well.
