I believe in the importance of building genuine therapeutic-relationships with clients to help them feel understood and empowered. I value your feedback to make sure we are working towards your goals. I hope to create a space that is warm, inviting, and celebrates your authentic self. I welcome clients of all backgrounds and identities, and specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ clients. Other areas of expertise include trauma, C-PTSD, anxiety, relationship diversity, and life transitions. My practice is dedicated to fostering social justice and challenging systems of oppression. Your story deserves to be heard. Together we will learn to embrace change and work towards achieving your mental health goals. I look forward to accompanying you on the continual journey for self empowerment.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you're already balancing classes, relationships, family expectations, work, and everything else that comes with college life. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or simply looking for extra support, I'm glad you're here. I'm Mary Mesiha, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 20 years of experience helping young adults navigate life's challenges. I specialize in working with college students facing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem, trauma, and the pressures that often come with this stage of life. I believe the relationship you have with your therapist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, gain practical tools, and build confidence as you work toward the life you want. I offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can get to know each other, discuss what you're looking for, and determine whether we're a good fit. I would be honored to support you through this chapter of your life.

I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) with over 28 years of experience, providing individual and couples therapy to an adult multicultural population. I have specialized training in trauma, women's issues, ACOA recovery and couples counseling. My current work incorporates Internal Family Systems and other mind-body approaches, as well as MBCT and solution-focused therapy. In addition, I work with Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), providing college students and professionals with evaluations and short-term treatment focused on interpersonal conflicts, work/life balance, academic and work performance problems, stress management and career coaching. Prior to my clinical career, I worked as a writer/editor and publicist in higher education and health care within non-profit and for-profit sectors. I also am a creative writer and musician. My approach is collaborative and open-minded. I offer both long-term and short-term psychotherapy. True healing occurs when individuals can reflect on the ways they engage with others, with the world, and with themselves. Relationships are often a focus because it is here that struggles often present themselves.

Inevitably, life presents difficulties, and can be challenging for many different reasons. Sometimes the things that bring people to therapy are very specific: perhaps a major life transition has become overwhelming, or certain patterns within a relationship are starting to take a toll. Pressures in some particular setting, whether it is at school, at work, or at home, may be feeling too difficult to navigate alone. Other times, people come to therapy a little less certain, feeling confused and unsure about where their life is headed, wanting something more. It’s not always easy to answer the question, “What brings you here?” People tend to doubt their inner strengths, and don’t quite realize how many resources they in fact possess. I have found that, though conversation with a trusted person, people can more easily identify and then build on those strengths. In my work with children, we often talk about expanding their “toolbox,” so that they have the skills to better manage overwhelming emotions and navigate complicated social situations. With teenagers and young adults, we often find ourselves talking about questions of identity development - the process of learning about who we are, how we got there, and what we want for ourselves moving forward. I see growth and development as a lifetime process, and, in my work with adults, we address all these issues in increasingly varied and complex ways, while also working together to navigate complex challenges presented by a world that can be arbitrary and unfair. My past experiences, doing individual and family therapy with people of all ages, of diverse backgrounds, and difficult, sometimes traumatic histories and life circumstances, have engendered within me a core belief that with the right support and collaboration, it is possible to make meaningful and long-lasting changes.

I work with adults (18+) who have difficulty managing their emotions and who struggle with depression, anxiety, impulsive behavior, thoughts of suicide and self-harm, interpersonal problems, or problems functioning at work or school. I provide evidence-based treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients change ineffective behavioral patterns, develop more helpful ways of thinking, and accept difficult realities in order to build the lives they want. I see therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist to work towards their goals in treatment and in life. I specialize in DBT, a gold standard treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder and related problems with emotion regulation. I provide a range of DBT services for clients. I also use CBT to treat specific problems: panic, generalized anxiety, OCD, depression, and trauma. I can tailor treatment interventions to meet clients' individual needs. Through my validating and nonjudgmental style, I am committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based treatment to help you reach your most desired goals. I currently offer services including comprehensive DBT, individual therapy (DBT, CBT) and individual DBT skills coaching and consultation. Please reach out if you are interested in finding out more about therapy with me.

One of the great promises of therapy is that even when we don’t know exactly what we need or know how to feel better, if we lean in with curiosity and compassion- and stay committed- we can learn to turn toward ourselves and each other with empathy, begin to build healthier relationships, and ride waves of emotions like a pro surfer. I believe we all have the capacity to grow and reach greater levels of understanding along happiness in life. I think the best way to get there is through a meaningful connection that is created in a safe environment where we can express our authentic needs. I often support clients with experiences like stress, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, bipolar, ADHD, and autism. I have been trained in various clinical techniques in Europe, including schema therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. My approach is integrative and tailored to your unique goals and needs. Growing up outside the US, I also bring a cross-cultural perspective that deepens my understanding of the challenges people from diverse backgrounds might face. I empower my clients to gain insights into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that they can make meaningful changes in their lives. Reach out if you're curious about working together!
