Jee Ye "Julia" Moon
I am a bilingual (English and Korean) LMSW with a Master of Social Work from Fordham University. I provide in-person and telehealth therapy to adults in New York, and telehealth therapy to clients in Florida and New Jersey.
I previously worked at an outpatient mental health clinic, supporting clients from diverse backgrounds between the ages of 17 and 65. This experience deepened my understanding of how unique each person's inner world is and the wide range of challenges people face.
Before transitioning into psychotherapy, I spent over 10 years in the corporate world and personally experienced the rewards and struggles that come with tying one's identity to a career.
I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma that has been suppressed due to cultural or familial dynamics. Repeatedly suppressing emotions can often manifest in adulthood as burnout, depression, anxiety, or somatic symptoms. Therapy can help you recognize and fully experience these emotions and reconnect with core memories that support healing. I have experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. I also specialize in working with adults who have experienced the ambiguous loss of a childhood, particularly when parent-child roles were reversed through parentification.
Many people define themselves by external accomplishments, yet still feel a persistent sense of emptiness. I believe therapy can help us reconnect with the parts of ourselves that have drifted apart over time, often contributing to emotional distress.
I approach therapy through a culturally-informed lens, taking time to understand the systems and environments that have shaped you. Our families and cultures deeply influence how we see the world. This understanding forms the foundation of our work together. From there, I collaborate with you to define and prioritize the goals that matter most to you, while offering interventions tailored to your needs. I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic alliance, working to build a respectful partnership where you are seen as the expert of your own life and experience. I take the time to understand your worldview and your goals before selecting the most suitable therapeutic modalities.
At times, it can feel like our emotional wounds are too old or too deep to be healed. We may fall into patterns of suppressing our feelings, only for them to resurface unexpectedly. My hope is to support you in reconnecting with your emotions, so you can feel more integrated and at peace with yourself.
In my practice, I incorporate a blend of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, and trauma-informed care. Interventions are always tailored to your unique needs and preferences.
Outside of work, I enjoy unwinding by taking long walks with my dog, Dooly, along the river. There's something calming about watching the water flow. On weekends, I can often be found hosting dinner parties or diving into big baking projects.
